Scalloping Braces

Post by Woodsy23 » Thu Dec 12, 2013 9:06 pm

Here's a really simple one relating to scalloping and trimming the outer ends of braces in an X braced top. 11.2.2.9 of Volume 2 talks about marking and trimming the braces 10mm inboard of the guitar outline. Drawing 1 shows the braces trimmed 10mm inside (at the nearest point) of what I assume is the inside face of the top lining. Which is correct or doesn't it matter too much? Or am I misinterpreting something?

That's another day the continuity person was AWOL!

The basic idea is to keep the ends of the braces out of the linings and to taper them to zero. At the level of difference here, it really doesn't matter too much which you choose. Most of my builds are falcate with the brace ends puled back a lot more than 10mm, so go with the 10mm from the inside of the linings (although 10mm from the outline is what Gerard does). Definitely not a show stopper.
