One way to make linings

Got a new way of doing something? Or maybe an old method that needs some clarification.

One way to make linings

Post by Bob Connor » Wed Jul 23, 2008 6:50 pm

Here's one way to make linings. It's quick and simple to make the jig.

In fact you should be making your own linings in about 5 minutes.

Johnfm asked about this and I know I showed this somewhere else but I couldn't find it.

I know Kim has a toot for making one with an auto indexer and maybe he'll throw that one up as well (or a link to it).

If anyone has has ideas or variations please throw 'em up here or on a new thread.

Here goes.

Most bandsaws have a mitre gauge.

Screw a spare lump of 2 x 2 or similar to the fence on your mitre gauge as shown in the pic below.

Adjust the bandsaw guides down so that the front of the guides touches the 2 x 2.

Now adjust the blade so it is making the correct depth kerf for your linings.

I make a mark on the 2 x 2 just to the side of the blade at the width that I want the kerfs and simply eyeball as I cut.

The finished product.
