Enlarging the kerf in Linings

Got a new way of doing something? Or maybe an old method that needs some clarification.

Enlarging the kerf in Linings

Post by Dave M » Wed Feb 21, 2018 7:19 am

This is probably a bit trivial but I'll throw it up anyway...

I have previously used various hand methods for increasing the width of the kerfs in linings to go round the tighter bends - wider handsaws and so on. This week I had to make some new linings so had my jig set up on the bandsaw. This made it seriously easy to increase the kerf width in a much more regular fashion. Since I eyeball the width rather than have an indexing pin or wafer I could just saw down and double the width.

Interesting. I had a go at double kerfing to go around a Venetian bend on my current build with ok success. Might keep this in mind next time

I like the double kerfing, not only looks nice, but appears very functional.

Have seen a few guitars pass over my workbench with big gap kerfing like above as well.

Interesting.
For tight bends i make the kerfs closer together. Never thought to make them wider, will give it a shot.
