14 frets dread in Acacia/Abete della val di Fiemme

Post by Valben » Thu May 17, 2018 1:33 pm

Hi All, I am here again with a standard Dread shape completed in 2016.
Some general information below:

Type : Standard Dread dimensions but with a slight increase in depth.
Top : Master grade Italian Alpine spruce (Abete Val di Fiemme) brought with me in the suitcase returning from a holiday trip in northern Italy.
Back & Sides : Acacia Koa, but I have some doubts (not an Hawaiian Koa for sure)
Neck : Douglas-FIR (what a pain to work with this timber )
Fretboard & Bridge : both Indian Rosewood, width at nut 46mm and wide string spacing at the bridge (about 57mm).
Strings : 12 gauge Ziko phosphor/bronze 80/20
Finishing: super-blonde shellac (could have done a better job but was in hurry to string it up )

Balanced sound, not too bassy, not too bright, could say boring but she actually has a very balanced tonal colour that my friend Keith is appreciating. I left the action a bit higher so it can be also strummed hard.

Cheers

Like the timber back and sides. The rosette with the fish and the fish inlay on the fingerboard is interesting.

Great result!
