Dust Storm at Uluru

Post by Allen » Thu Oct 01, 2009 5:42 am

Here's some shots of a dust storm at Uluru. Pretty spectacular, and makes me think that I'd want to get all the laundry in off of the line.

Wow, that is some pretty amazing pics. About time for some wet weather I'd say. Why is the dust red, volcanic?

Its red because of presence of Haematite...a form of iron oxide that is stable in arid environments. Yellow coloured limonite is more common in less arid areas such as NZ.
